Iceland – Land of Fire and Ice

Iceland is a captivating destination defined by its stunning contrasts. Known as the “Land of Fire and Ice,” it boasts a landscape where volcanic craters coexist with sprawling glaciers. Reykjavik, the world’s northernmost capital, serves as the perfect starting point for exploring the country’s natural wonders. With its colorful architecture and cultural attractions like the iconic Hallgrímskirkja church, Reykjavik offers a glimpse into Icelandic history and modern life. From 27 May 2025, the Icelandic airline PLAY will once again fly directly from Brussels to the capital. As a central hub for the Benelux countries, Brussels Airport is an important destination for PLAY. The flight schedule runs until 6 September 2025 this season. To get the most out of your holiday, you can even book flights to the United States with a stopover (or stayover) in Iceland.

PLAY flies directly from Brussels Airport to Keflavik Airport and back on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The outbound flight from Belgium is always scheduled for 12:30 and at 13:50 you will be in Iceland after a flight of just over three hours. The return flight from Keflavik Airport departs at 6:10 and at 11:30 you will be on Belgian soil. Again after a flight of over three hours.

PLAY’s offer also includes transatlantic flights to the United States and Canada. From Iceland you can book a flight to Boston, New York, Baltimore or Toronto, but it gets even better if you can add a bit of Iceland to your trip with a stopover and that at no extra cost. PLAY calls it a stayover. How does a stayover work? You can stay in Iceland for up to 10 days per route in a stayover booking. A stayover can therefore be on the outward journey, the return journey or both.

Iceland’s natural beauty is unmatched, with highlights like the Golden Circle route, which connects three major attractions: Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Waterfall, and the erupting geyser Strokkur. Visitors can marvel at the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara or take in the beauty of the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where icebergs drift serenely across the water. For those seeking adventure, the Vatnajökull glacier offers opportunities for ice cave exploration and glacier hikes, providing an up-close experience of Iceland’s icy landscapes.

The country is also home to abundant wildlife, including puffins, Arctic foxes, and whales. To unwind, visitors can soak in geothermal hot springs like the Blue Lagoon or explore less commercialized spots such as the Reykjadalur Valley, where warm rivers create natural baths. These highlights make Iceland a dream destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

PLAY Airlines, founded in 2021, has a modern fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft. The low-cost airline has punctuality, simplicity, happiness, low prices and safety as its most important core values.
